I’m going to show you a little trick to keep this a small ceiling repair instead of a bunch of tearing out drywall and reinstalling drywall on this type of ceiling dilemma.

I’ll also be using 5 minute hot mud to do the first coat of the drywall finishing over a fiberglass mesh tape. Then i will be skim coating over the old school painted popcorn ceiling two times with all purpose joint compound. Then I’ll be applying a skip trowel texture to the skim coated ceiling to match the rest of this homes skip trowel ceilings. Then priming and painting this new ceiling.
